Why is the Bible so difficult to understand?

The Word of God is complex and difficult to understand unless you are in relationship with the Lord and the Holy Spirit illuminates the Scripture for you. Luke 24:45 says, "Then he (the Holy Spirit) opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures." You must surrender your heart and mind to the Lord by faith, even if you don't understand it. And then, once He has cleansed you of your sin and come to dwell in your heart, you will feel as though a veil has been lifted. You will see things in Scripture that you never have seen before.

If you already are a believer, and are still having trouble understanding Scripture, pray that the Lord will open your mind to His Word. Pray against any evil spirits that are trying to keep you from grasping the Word of God. Above all, keep at it! Be diligent to seek the Lord. 1 Chronicles 28:9 makes this promise: "If you seek him, he will be found by you." Proverbs 8:17 says, "I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me."
